CANTON, Mo. – Rick Hovinga scored twice to reach 57 career goals, a new MNU career record, in MNU's 3-2 victory at Culver-Stockton on Friday. The forward from Groningen, Netherlands scored 3 goals in 7 games in the spring of the 2020 season, then scored 15 goals in each of the next 3 seasons to find himself 3rd all time behind Justen Wack's 54 and Trent Remmich's 56. Hovinga scored his 56th career goal in the 2nd minute to give the Pioneers an early lead. Gil Brown made it 2-0 with a goal in the 30th minute, but Culver answered less than a minute later to cut the lead in half. Hovinga's record-breaker came in the 74th minute to make it 3-1, and Culver responded quickly again. But the MNU defense held the 3-2 advantage to get the win.
Turning Point
Hovinga's 2nd goal put MNU up for good.
