Pioneers Win Big in Arizona

MESA, Ariz. - The Pioneers jumped out to a big lead and kept scoring in a 17-6 victory at Arizona Christian on Saturday. In the top of the 1st, Dionathan Cornet put MNU up 4-0 with a 1-out grand slam, and Brycen Sherwood made it 6-0 with a 2-run shot in the 2nd. Brysen Hamilton put the Pioneers up 8-0 with a 2-run homer in the 3rd, and starter Zach Trevino struck out 9 in 4 innings to keep the lead. ACU scored 3 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th to close the gap, but the Pioneers blew it open in the 7th. Ten batters came to the plate in the inning, and Drew Woodley led off with a walk and capped an 8-run inning with a 2-run homer for a 17-6 lead. The Pioneer relievers kept ACU quiet the rest of the way, and MNU won their first game of the season.

Zach Trevino struck out 9 in 4 innings. Ryan Wilwers picked up the win with 5 strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief. John Barry struck out 2 in 1.1 innings of relief.
