Gonzalez Reaches 1,000 as Pioneers Overcome 25-Point Deficit

CANTON, Mo. – The Pioneers won their sixth straight game with a huge comeback victory at Culver-Stockton on Saturday. The Pioneers could not find the basket in the first quarter and fell behind 16-4. The 2nd quarter wasn't much better as missed shots and turnovers mounted, and Culver won 21-10 for a 37-14 halftime lead. The second half was a complete reversal, and MNU chipped away at a 25-point deficit with a 21-7 3rd quarter to get within 9. Two 3-pointers by Jordynn Gonzalez sandwiched another from Allison French, and the game was quickly tied early in the 4th. Lydia Ostenson scored 4 straight points to put MNU up by 4 with 2 minutes left, and 2 free throws from Kameron Green made it a 6-point game with 18 seconds left. A miracle 3-pointer cut the lead in half with 9 seconds left, and MNU hit a free throw for a 4-point lead. In the final seconds, MNU fouled a 3-point shooter, and Culver hit all 3 free throws. MNU inbounded the ball and got fouled, but both free throws missed for one final attempt. Culver couldn't get a shot off in the final 2 seconds, and MNU completed the comeback.
