LANGSTON, Okla. - A field goal block in the first overtime sealed MNU's first victory of 2023 on Saturday. The Pioneers jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter, but the offense stalled until the 4th. Langston scored a touchdown at the end of the half and tied the game late in the 3rd. The Lions took the lead after returning a punt to the 1-yard line and punching it in on 4th down, but the Pioneers answered on the next drive. Chunk plays from

Myles Hymes (24 yards) and
EJ Rogers (37 yards) put MNU in the red zone, but the drive stalled and the Pioneers faced a 4th and goal from the 5 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. Parsons scrambled and found
Cameron Finley in the end zone, and the game was tied. MNU stopped Langston on 4th down on the ensuing drive, but the Lions blocked an MNU field goal to keep the game tied with 4 minutes left. The Lions were near midfield when their drive stalled, and the game went into overtime.
MNU settled for a 21-yard field goal, but the Pioneer defense also forced a field goal attempt from the Lions.
Jacob Tegt blocked it, and MNU escaped with the win.
"It was great to get our first win of the season," said head coach
Paul Hansen. "Our guys worked extremely hard this offseason. To go on the road and get a win vs a really good opponent will help us as we start Heart North play."
