Late PK Dooms Pioneers in Tourney Final

OLATHE, Kan. - #21 MNU lost 3-2 to #12 Missouri Valley in the Conference Tournament Championship on Friday. The Vikings got on the board right away with a goal in the 4th minute, but the Pioneers tied it after a corner kick in the 28th minute. Jose Munoz and Duarte Chapelas knocked the ball towards Vitus Voitl, who poked it home for the equalizer. In the final seconds of the half, Valley scored again for a 2-1 lead at the break.

The second half saw MNU probing the Valley defense to little effect, but in the 76th minute Jony Munoz finished a scramble in the box for a 2-2 tie. But less than a minute later, a Pioneer foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick, and the Vikings took a late 3-2 lead. The Valley defense held firm, and the Vikings took the title.

Valley's PK in the 77th minute was the difference.

Vitus Voitl and Jony Munoz had a goal apiece. And Jose Munoz and Duarte Chapelas recorded assists.
