Pioneers Beat Statesmen

The Basics
Score: MNU 33 - William Penn 9
Record: MNU (2-1), WPU (0-3)
Location: CBAC - Olathe, Kan.

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU took advantage of several turnovers to move to 2-1 on the season in a 33-9 victory over William Penn. The Pioneer defense made a stop on 4th down in the opening drive, but were forced to punt on the ensuing drive. The punt hit a Statesmen player, however, and MNU recovered at the 26-yard line. Two plays later, Adrian Parsons found Ethan Pritchard for a 13-yard touchdown, and MNU would never trail. The teams traded punts for a few possessions, then Troy Hall forced a fumble in Penn territory and MNU scored 5 plays later. Trevor Highley nailed a 35-yard field goal for a 16-0 lead, but Penn responded with a 95-yard touchdown pass to get on the board. Parsons found Caleb Tanis for a 35-yard touchdown near the end of the half, and MNU went to the locker room leading 23-7.

Penn managed to score on a safety in the 2nd half, but MNU scored 10 more points for a 33-9 final.

"Really proud of how our team responded this week," said head coach Paul Hansen. "We had a great week of practice and then we really executed the game plan."

Turning Point
MNU's first punt made contact with a Penn player and the Pioneers recovered and eventually scored.
