LEWISTON, Idaho - MNU dropped their second 1-run game in as many tries at the 2022 World Series to close the season on Sunday. The #6-ranked Bellevue Bruins started with a bang as they led off with a triple which sparked a 2-run rally in the top of the 1st.
Josh Torrance cut down a 3rd run at the plate to end the inning, and MNU responded with a run in the bottom of the 1st.
Brycen Sherwood doubled and
Noah Castillo followed with a single.
Joshuan Sandoval's RBI single cut the deficit in half, and MNU was on the board. Castillo tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd with his 3rd homer of the World Series,
and the bullpen held Bellevue scoreless until the 6th. A 2-run homer made it 4-2, but a
Joshuan Sandoval bomb made it a 1-run game once again in the bottom of the 6th. Bellevue scratched across an insurance run in the top of the 8th on a squeeze bunt, but pinch hitter
Joey Calamaio launched his 2nd homer of the season to make it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the inning.
The Pioneers threatened with 2 runners on base in the bottom of the 9th, but a popout ended the season.
Turning Point
Bellevue's 2-run homer in the 6th gave them the lead for good.
Individual Leaders
Eric Navarette struck out 4 in 4 relief innings.
Reece Helland and
Nathan Torres combined for 3.1 scoreless innings. And
Noah Castillo (2-4, R, HR, RBI),
Joshuan Sandoval (2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI), and
Joey Calamaio (1-1, R, HR, RBI) drove in MNU's 4 runs.
