OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers dominated a 5-minute stretch to take a big lead in a 5-1 victory over Rocky Mountain and advance to the final of the Opening Round. In a fast-paced first half, the teams traded chances but remained scoreless until the 22nd minute. MNU got on the board when
Nicolas Theberge lofted a corner kick into the box where it was headed home by
Vitus Voitl. Less than a minute later, Theberge beat the keeper to the ball after a long pass from
Jose Ignacio Munoz, and MNU led 2-0. Just 3 minutes passed before Theberge and Voitl connected on an identical corner kick, and MNU took a commanding lead. Over the next 3 minutes, Rocky Mountain had 3 point blank shots on goal - including a PK - and
Andrea Dorella saved them all to preserve the lead.
Rick Hovinga made it 4-0 early in the 2nd half, and
Jayedon Manswell capped the scoring with a breakaway goal in the 76th minute. Rocky Mountain managed a goal with 3 minutes left, and MNU won 5-1.
