Pioneers Earn Dramatic Split at Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Pioneers split a double header at Grand View on Saturday. In Game 1, the starting pitchers battled to a scoreless tie into the 7th. In the top of the 7th, Emma Ryan led off with a double and Audrey Denges reached on a bunt single. The lead runner was caught at home after a 1st and 3rd rundown situation, but Londin Fiorella singled and Brianna Carter walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Hannah Tenberge worked a walk to give MNU a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Grand View led off with a solo homer to tie it, and the game went into the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th, 3 straight bunts loaded the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, the Vikings managed a walk-off sacrifice fly to take Game 1.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Alexis Wilds struck out 2 in a complete game loss. And Emma Ryan (2-4, 2B) had 2 hits.

In Game 2, both teams scored a single run in the 1st inning, and the game remained tied until the 6th. In the top of the 6th, Audrey Denges launched a solo homer to give MNU a 2-1 lead, and starter Sarah Melodia and the defense kept Grand View off the scoreboard. With 2 outs and runners and 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the 7th, the Viking batter grounded a single into left, but Londin Fiorella fired home to get the runner and end the game.
