Pioneers Advance to Semis on PKs

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU fell behind 1-0 early in the game, but tied it in the 2nd half and survived 2 overtimes in a shootout victory over Baker in the Heart Tourney semifinals. Baker converted a PK in the 21st minute and carried a 1-0 lead through halftime. In the 54th minute, Rick Hovinga broke free and fired a close shot which glanced off the keeper directly to waiting foot of Butoyi Issa. Issa finished the easy chance to tie the game, and the teams battled through 2 overtimes to arrive at a shootout.

Baker shot first, and Enzo Carvalho made the save. Rick Hovinga converted, and Winder Pessoa, Jayedon Manswell, and Jose Ignacio Munoz followed suit. Baker's 5th shot was needed to extend the shootout, but Carvalho made another save to send MNU to the semis.

Turning Point
Enzo Carvalho saved the first shot of the shootout, and his final save ended it. Individual Leaders
Butoyi Issa recorded the game-tying goal. Rick Hovinga had the assist. And Andrea Dorella had 4 saves.
