Pioneers Storm Back Late at Penn

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Pioneers went to William Penn and had to complete a big comeback in a 61-47 victory on Monday. The teams slogged their way to an 11-7 first-quarter MNU lead, and the game was tied at 24 at halftime. The Statesmen took over in the 3rd quarter, finishing on a 9-0 run to take a 10-point lead heading to the 4th. But MNU dominated the 4th quarter. TrEl'Shawn Smith scored 5 straight points to cut the deficit in half, and Jordynn Gonzalez hit a 3 to get the Pioneers within 2. After a Penn 3 pushed the lead back to 5, Megan Scott scored in the paint and Penn answered with a layup with 6 minutes left. The Statesmen did not score again. The Pioneers ended the game on a 19-0 run to win going away, and Jordynn Gonzalez scored 13 points and recorded 2 steals in the period.
