Pioneers Split at Peru

PERU, Neb. - The Pioneers split a double header at Peru State on Friday. In Game 1, MNU scored first with a run in the 2nd, but Peru answered with 3 in the bottom of the inning. The Pioneers got 1 in the 5th, but still trailed heading to the 7th. Allison Denges led off with a single and Kaleigh Bayless followed with a bunt single. A passed ball advanced the runners, and Cassidy Berry knocked them in with a single to take the lead. Audrey Denges hit a 2-run homer later in the inning, and MNU won 6-3.

Cassidy Berry's go-ahead single in the 7th gave MNU the lead for good.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Emily Robinson struck out 4 for a complete game victory. And Kaleigh Bayless (2-4, 2 R, SB), Emily Robinson (3-4, R, 2B, RBI), Tessa Ward (2-4), and Audrey Denges (2-4, R, HR, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, Kaleigh Bayless led off with a homer, but Peru scored 3 in the bottom of the 1st. MNU scored 3 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd, but Peru rallied for 4 in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 7-6 lead. MNU tied it at 7 in the 4th, but the Bobcats took the lead again with a run in the 5th. In the top of the 7th, Audrey Denges hit a 2-run homer to give the Pioneers the lead. But a double followed by a triple in the bottom of the 7th set Peru up, and the Bobcats walked off the Pioneers to salvage a split.
