Pioneers Sweep Wild Double Header

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers swept a wild double header from Benedictine on Friday. In Game 1, the Ravens took the lead in the top of the second on a 3-run homer, and MNU was held hitless into the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th, Kaleigh Bayless led off with a single and Emily Robinson followed with the same. After a sac bunt and a wild pitch, Cassidy Berry singled home Robinson to make it 3-2. After a 2-out walk to Tessa Ward, Kellie Dumas singled home the tying run. Emma Ryan followed with a pinch hit 2-run double, and the Pioneers led 5-3. In the top of the 6th, Benedictine tied it with a 2-run homer, but Emily Robinson's solo shot in the bottom of the inning put MNU back up by 1. Allison Denges finished her start stranding 2 in scoring position in the 7th, and MNU took Game 1. Game 1 Turning Point
Robinson's solo shot in the 6th proved to be the game winner.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Allison Denges struck out 4 in a complete game victory. And Kaleigh Bayless (1-2, R, BB, SB, HBP), Emily Robinson (2-4, 2 R, HR, RBI), Kellie Dumas (1-1, R, RBI, 2 BB, 2 SB), and Emma Ryan (1-1, 2B, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, MNU rallied for 3 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 2nd to take the lead a 3-0 lead. Benedictine got 1 in the 3rd and 3 more in the 4th to take a 4-3 lead. The Pioneers exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th, punctuated by a 3-run homer from Tessa Ward, and MNU led 9-4. The Ravens picked up a run in the 5th and managed a 6-run inning of their own in the 6th to take an 11-9 lead. Another run crossed in the top of the 7th, and MNU trailed by 3 heading to the bottom of the last inning. Kellie Dumas led off with a walk and Hannah Tenberge doubled her to 3rd. After a groundout, an infield RBI single, and another groundout, MNU trailed 12-10 with runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Cassidy Berry worked a walk, and Kinsey Kiser fouled off several full count pitches before earning a walk to close the deficit to 1. On a 2-0 pitch, Tessa Ward looped a single down the right field line to score Bayless and Berry, and MNU won 13-12.
