CANTON, Mo. - The Pioneers led by 15 at halftime but saw it slip away in an 87-81 loss at Culver-Stockton on Saturday. MNU jumped on the Wildcats early with a 14-4 start, and led 42-27 at the break.
Culver got back in the game quickly in the 2nd half, using a 16-1 run to trim the deficit to 1. After the teams traded buckets for a few minutes, the Wildcats built a 5-point lead with 11 minutes to play.
Patrick Cairns and
Jake Alexander scored the next 9 straight points, and
Dante Scroggins capped an 11-0 run with a bucket to put MNU up by 6. The Wildcats trimmed the deficit and finally tied the game with under 7 minutes to play, and the game was still tied after a Cairns 3-pointer with 49 seconds left. But MNU didn't score again. The Wildcats hit 6 threes down the stretch to pull away.
