Pioneers Fall in Omaha to Close Season

The Basics
Score: MNU 0 - Rocky Mountain 2
Record: MNU (14-6), RMC (14-4-2)
Location: Caniglia Field - Omaha, Neb.

OMAHA, Neb. - The Pioneers couldn't find the net in a 2-0 loss to Rocky Mountain in the Opening Round on Friday. The game was played at Caniglia Field on the campus of Nebraska-Omaha in a 3-team mini tournament hosted by Midland. MNU controlled the action in the opening minutes, but the RMC defense stood firm and created a few counter chances. Late in the 1st half, Rocky Mountain scored after a scrum in the box and held the lead through the break. Both teams created some legitimate chances in the 2nd half, but the Pioneers fell behind by 2 in the 74th minute when a header snuck into the upper 90. MNU pressed in the final minutes but couldn't break through, and Rocky Mountain won 2-0.

"We were stretched to grow tonight and we couldn't find an answer as a group," said Coach McClanahan. "Both sides had many clear chances to score, however RMC were clinical and took theirs. We are definitely frustrated with the result, but putting things into perspective, this season was definitely a step in the right direction in building a program that competes nationally year in and year out. My staff and I are extremely thankful for both seniors who helped pave the way for us this year. Lastly, we are also proud of all the entire team and the effort they put in. We will continue to stick together, step up to take responsibility for our own performances and stay hungry to become the best version of ourselves."

Turning Point
RMC's goal in the 40th minute was the winner.

Individual Leaders
Maria Garcia (2), Brylee Johnson (1), Alyssa Gladhart (1), and Elvia Villagomez (1) recorded MNU's shots on goal. And Kailee Barnhard recorded 5 saves.
