Pioneers Win at #15 Benedictine

ATCHISON, Kan. - MNU won its 6th straight game with a 2-1 victory at #15 Benedictine on Wednesday. The win and Evangel's loss gives MNU sole possession of 2nd place in the Heart. Savannah Moxley put MNU up 1-0 in the 10th minute when she collected the ball from a scrum and fired past the keeper. The 1-0 lead held through halftime - thanks to a PK save from Kailee Barnhard
MNU went up 2-0 early in the 2nd half. Elvia Villagomez threaded a pass to the feet of a streaking Maria Garcia who beat the keeper for the score in the 56th minute. Benedictine converted a PK 8 minutes later to get back into the game, but the Pioneer defense held on the rest of the way. "Our coaching staff is extremely proud of the effort these ladies put in all week," said Coach McClanahan. "It allowed us to get another big win tonight. It's great to see their hard work and discipline be rewarded in such a big match. Credit to the group for executing the game plan and getting the job done. We took another step forward in maximizing our potential as a team."
