Turnovers Doom Pioneers

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers lost 3 fumbles in a 24-19 defeat at the hand of Peru State on Saturday. MNU's opening drive resulted in a blocked field goal, and Peru answered with a successful field goal. The Pioneers took the lead in the second quarter with a 10-play 39-yard touchdown drive capped off by an Austin Blackston to Juvantae Martin 14-yard score. But the Bobcats blocked a punt near the goal line and recovered for a touchdown to take a 10-7 lead late in the half. MNU responded with a 6-play 60-yard drive and a Dalton Inlow 18-yard touchdown catch, and the Pioneers led 13-10 at halftime.

MNU forced a 3-and-out to open the second half, but fumbled near the goal line on the ensuing drive as Peru pounced on it for a touchdown. The Bobcats followed with a drive to the red zone, but Ryan Huerta picked off a pass at the goal line to prevent a score. In the 4th quarter, MNU lost a fumble and Peru answered with a quick touchdown to take a 24-13 lead. MNU's next drive reached the red zone, but a fumble at the goal line kept the Bobcats up by 11. A Jamar Moya touchdown late in the 4th brought the Pioneers closer, and a stop gave the ball back to MNU with just under a minute to play. The Peru State defense held, and the Bobcats won by 5.

Early in the 4th, MNU fumbled and Peru scored 3 plays later to take an 11-point lead.

Individual Leaders
Austin Blackston threw for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jamar Moya had 19 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown, and 7 catches for 84 yards. And Ryan Huerta recorded 10 tackles and an interception.
