NAIA Recap | The Pioneers run in the 2018 National Tournament came to an end at the hands of #4 Westmont on Saturday. Westmont controlled the 1st quarter and led 23-10. The Pioneers were able to turn things around in the highly offensive 2nd quarter, as MNU won the period 24-20 to trim the deficit to 9 at halftime. Neither team could score much in the 3rd period, but MNU used a 9-7 period advantage to trail by just 7 heading to the 4th. A free throw and an
Ashley Cook 3-pointer got MNU within 3 points with 7:41 remaining, but Westmont answered to push their lead back to 7.
Lyndsee Johnson's 3-pointer got the Pioneers to within 4, but Westmont held off MNU and hit free throws down the stretch to win by 11.
Turning Point
MNU's leading scorer and arguably the top performer of the tournament thus far,
Alisha Washington, was limited to just 13 minutes and 9 points due to injury. Washington had scored 33 and 32 points, respectively, in the first two games.
