OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers lost a tight Game 1 but exploded for a 5-inning 8-run victory in Game 2 vs. Sterling College in the home opener on Thursday. In Game 1, Sterling got on the board with a solo homer in the top of the 2nd, but the Pioneers rallied to take the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Jostyn Bebout led off with a single and
Megan Anthony followed with a double. RBIs from
Emma Gordon and
Shelby Frans put MNU up 3-2. Sterling scored twice in the top of the 4th, and neither team dented the plate for the rest of the game.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Jostyn Bebout struck out 4 in the complete game loss. And
Emily Robinson (2-3) and
Megan Anthony (2-3, R, 2 2B) had 2 hits apiece.
In Game 2, MNU scored in each of the 5 innings and won via the mercy rule. The Pioneers scored on a
Tessa Ward RBI in the 1st, and back-to-back doubles from
Hanna VanLanker and
Madison Butcoff put MNU up by 3 in the 2nd. Sterling rallied for 3 runs on 3 hits to tie the game in the top of the 3rd, but MNU blew it open in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded and 2 outs,
Christina Gochenour doubled to break the tie and VanLanker followed with another 2-run double. Butcoff singled home VanLanker and MNU led by 5. Another run in the 4th made it 9-3, and 2 more in the 5th ended the game.
Game 2 Turning Point
Christina Gochenour's 2-out 2-run double broke the tie and sparked a 5-run rally in the bottom of the 3rd.

Emily Robinson struck out 5 in a 5-inning complete game while recording 2 singles and a double on offense. And
