Pioneers Drop 2 of 3 in Joplin

JOPLIN, Mo. - MNU opened the season with 3 neutral site games in Joplin over the weekend. In Game 1 vs. Viterbo, Jordan Dailey struck out 5 in 5 shutout innings and Austyn Gooch struck out 2 in 2 shutout relief innings as MNU earned a 6-0 victory. MNU got on the board in the bottom of the 1st when Lenzie Foley led off with a triple and scored on a Jacob Jenkins single. In the 3rd, JP Rousseau knocked in 2 and Cooper Curran drove in another to give MNU a 5-0 lead. Rousseau tallied another RBI in the 4th to complete the scoring.

Game 1 Turning Point
Jordan Dailey worked around a leadoff double in the first, and the Pioneers scored in the bottom to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Jordan Dailey struck out 5 and allowed just 4 hits in 5 shutout innings for the win. Austyn Gooch pitched 2 hitless innings with 2 Ks. And Lenzie Foley (2-4, R, 2B, 3B), Juwan Padro (1-2, 2 R, 2B, SB), and JP Rousseau (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB) led the offense.

In Game 2 vs Columbia, MNU scored 1 in the top of the 1st and another in the 4th to take a 2-0 lead. But Columbia exploded for 7 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the 4th to turn the game around. MNU got back in the game with a 4-run 6th, but couldn't complete the comeback in an 8-6 loss.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Jacob Jenkins pitched 3 innings of 2-hit shutout ball and went 2-4 with 2 RBIs. And Lenzie Foley (2-3, R, 2 2B, RBI, SF), JP Rousseau (2-3, R, RBI, BB), and Juwan Padro (2-4, R, RBI) had 2 hits apiece.

In Game 3, Robert Morris shut out the Pioneers while managing 1 run. MNU had opportunities in the 5th and 6th with runners in scoring position but couldn't bring them home.

Jacob Sylvester struck out 10 and allowed just 3 hits and 0 earned runs in 5 innings. Austin Conour struck out 2 more in 2 innings of hitless relief. And Isaac Geisinger (1-2, 3B, BB) and Cooper Curran (1-3, 2B) had extra base hits for MNU.
