Pioneers Sweep Statesmen

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU finished the week 7-1 after a double header sweep of William Penn on Saturday. In Game 1, each team scored 1 in the first. In the bottom of the 5th with the score still 1-1, Shelby Frans led off with a double and Maddie Johnson knocked her in to give the Pioneers the lead. Emily Robinson finished her start with 6 straight scoreless innings, and MNU won 2-1.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Emily Robinson earned the win with with a complete game 5-hit victory. And Maddie Johnson (2-2, R, RBI, 3 SB, Sac), Lydia Reyes (1-3, RBI, SB), and Shelby Frans (1-2, R, 2B) led the offense.

In Game 2, neither team got much going as each pitcher breezed through the first 3 innings. In the bottom of the 4th, Kinsey Kiser's RBI single put MNU up 1-0, and the Pioneers rallied for 4 runs on 4 hits in the 5th to blow it open. MNU scored another in the 6th and William Penn rallied for 3 in the 7th, but Clarisa Cortez finished her start for the win.

Kinsey Kiser's RBI in the 4th gave MNU a lead they would not relinquish.

Clarisa Cortez used just 75 pitches (23 in the 7th) in the complete game victory. And Madison Butcoff (2-3, RBI), Lydia Reyes (1-2, 2 R, BB), Kinsey Kiser (2-2, R, 2 RBI, BB), Hanna VanLanker (2-2, RBI, SB, Sac), Brittany Jacobsen (2-3, 2 RBI), Natalie Clark (2-3, R, 2B), and Korrissa Aguilar (2-3, R) led the offense.
