Pioneers Swept at Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - MNU held the lead in each game but lost both in a double header sweep at Avila in the Heart opener on Friday. The Pioneers scored first when Emily Robinson knocked in Madison Butcoff in the top of the 1st. Back-to-back doubles from Kinsey Kiser and Lydia Reyes put MNU up 2-0 in the 3rd, but Avila made a comeback in the 6th. A single and a walk put the tying runs on, and a 1-out single brought them both home. In the bottom of the 8th, Avila drove home the winning run with a 2-out single.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Lydia Reyes (2-4, 2B, RBI) and Emily Robinson (1-3, RBI) drove in MNU's 2 runs.

In Game 2, Avila scored 3 in the bottom of the 2nd, but MNU responded by loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 3rd. Lydia Reyes drove in 2 and the tying run scored on a 2-out wild pitch. The Pioneers took the lead with a 2-out rally in the top of the 4th, but Avila scored twice in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-4. Avila retired 9 straight in the late innings, and a 2-out single in the 7th was left stranded as the Eagles completed the sweep.

A bunt hit was followed by an error to set up Avila in the bottom of the 4th.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Jostyn Bebout struck out 7 in the loss. And Madison Butcoff (2-4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 SB) and Lydia Reyes (1-4, 2 RBI) led the offense.
