Game Recap: Soccer (M) | | Sports Information Department

Pioneers Suffer First Loss

The MNU Men's Soccer team lost their first game of the season this afternoon at the Olathe District Activities Center. The sixth ranked Eagles from Oklahoma Wesleyan defeated the Pioneers on a first half goal that stood up as the final 1-0 score line.

The defense of OKWU did well to limit MNU's opportunities in the game. It is the first time the Pioneers have been shut out this season. OKWU had more opportunities but neither team created many great chances on goal. The first opportunity for the Eagles came by way of a set piece just outside the box. The initial shot was saved by MNU's Juan Pablo Riesco but the spilled rebound was finished by Perica Obrodovic in the 18th minute. MNU's Tanner Hunjak had a great chance right near the end of the half but his shot from close range went just wide.

The second half was a bit of a snoozer as neither team really created much around the box. Both teams did a good job of disrupting the flow of the opponent and because of this there really wasn't much of a rhythm to the game. Riesco made one really good save on a corner kick by OKWU but that was about it.

For the game OKWU outshot MNU 13-6, with shots on goal being 5-3. Luka Stojanvoic had 3 saves in the match. Riesco had 4 saves. OKWU is now 3-0 on the season. MNU falls to 3-1-1. That game marks the end of the non-conference portion of the schedule. Next up is the conference opener against William Penn on Saturday, September 17 at Pioneer Field.
