Dominic Harrington made his MNU debut this afternoon and it didn't take long for the Junior from Trinidad to announce his arrival. A hat trick ensured that Pioneer fans will take notice of the newcomer. MNU defeated Northwestern College 4-1 to open their account for the 2016 season.
On a beautiful afternoon in Orange City, Iowa the Pioneers got off to a good start. In the 9th minute Felipe Abreu scored off of a Frantzly Zephirin assist. He took a deflection of a long throw-in and finished far post from 18 yards out. At the 18:28 mark, MNU doubled their lead. Harrington tapped in from close range. Zephirin tallied his second assist of the match after his long throw was flicked on by Johannes Keisers. The half ended with MNU holding a 2-0 lead.
The second half was similar to the first half. MNU controlled play and the Red Raiders tried to create chances off the counter. In the 64th minute, Harrington secured his brace. A cross from Clark Campbell into the box was finished by a nifty left footed side volley. The hat trick was complete in the 83rd minute. A nice ball into space by Andrew McClanahan was collected by Trae Hunjak. He slotted a pass across the face of the goal for Harrington to finish. With 90 seconds left, Northwestern had an unassisted goal to ruin Juan Pablo Riesco's clean sheet.
For the game, MNU outshot NWC 22-6, with shots on goal being 10-5. Matt Scott registered 6 saves for Northwestern. Riesco was credited with 4 saves in the win. NWC is now 0-2 on the season. Next up for the Pioneers is a top 10 clash with #7 Columbia College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm, Tuesday August 30th in Columbia, Missouri.
