Pioneers Fall in Overtime

MNU trailed by 13 with 12 minutes to go, but managed to send the game into overtime before falling 97-94 at the hands of Peru State on Wednesday. The Pioneers started strong with a 9-2 run in the opening 5 minutes, but the Bobcats responded with a 13-5 run to take the lead. At the end of the first half, Peru State held an 8-point lead.

In the second half, MNU found themselves down 61-48 with around 12 minutes left. The Pioneers slowly battled back and chipped away at the deficit until Gabriel Jordan finally tied the game with a 3-pointer with 2:30 remaining. The teams traded buckets down the stretch and went into overtime. A tight overtime came down to the last 15 seconds. MNU trailed by 3 when Jonas Page banked in a contested 3-pointer to tie the game, but Peru State's Corday Sims came right down the floor and nailed a 3 of his own to leave MNU with just 2 seconds. A final desperation play went begging, and Peru State won.


Jonas Page shot 11-17 for a season-high 31 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals off the bench. Nick Syrie had 18 points, 10 assists, and 5 steals. Justin Randall had 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. And Gabriel Jordan had 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists off the bench.

MNU is 9-5 (3-3 Heart). The next game is Saturday at Graceland (8-6, 3-3) at 4:00.
