Pioneers Shut Out at #13 Missouri Valley

The Pioneers dropped a very close game Saturday evening when they visited the #13 ranked Vikings of Missouri Valley College. Both teams came out strong in the first half and created strong opportunities. Both teams created opportunities to go ahead in the first half, but goalkeeper Lexi Gochnauer would keep the Pioneers in the game with several brilliant saves. However, in the 25th minute, the Vikings would strike off a failed clearance by the Pioneer back line, going up 1-0.

The Pioneers picked up the offense late in the first half which saw great opportunities come from midfielder Steffi Krohn, as well as a shot from forward Taryn McClendon that was denied by the crossbar. The Pioneers went into halftime down 1-0 looking for a way to settle the score.

In the second half, MNU came out fighting to find an equalizer and get themselves back in the game against a strong Vikings defense. The Pioneers would close on several occasions, but were unable to find the back of net after several great attacking opportunities. MNU fought until the final seconds of the second half, but were unable to find the equalizer.

The Pioneers (5-4-1) are now 1-1 in conference play, but will look to bounce back this week when they take on the Eagles of Avila University (3-5-2, 1-2) at 2:00 on Wednesday at MNU.
