The Pioneers were held to a season low 49 points in the HAAC Post Season Tournament final on Monday. The Pioneers were vying for their 4th consecutive HAAC tourney title after dominating the regular season. Neither team could get the offense going early, and Benedictine led 8-3 after 4 minutes of play. After a Raven 3-pointer at the 12-minute mark, neither team scored for 4 minutes. MNU used a 7-0 run - capped by an
Ashtynn Burns 3-pointer - to get within 1, but Benedictine closed the half on a 9-2 run to go to the locker room with an 8-point lead. The Ravens started the second half strongly as well, and MNU trailed by 14 with 10 minutes to play. The Pioneers finally started to chip away 29-43, and used a 14-2 run over 5 minutes to get within 2. Benedictine quickly got the lead back up to 6, but
Megan Balcom nailed a 3 to cut the deficit in half with 2 minutes left. MNU could not get any closer, however, and a 7-3 run gave Benedictine a 56-49 victory.
Daria Sprew led the Pioneers with 14 points, 16 rebounds (tying a career high), 4 assists, and 2 blocks. And
Jasmine Webb added 10 points off the bench.
MNU is 26-5. The national tournament begins Wednesday the 18th in Independence, Missouri.
