Hayley Gately's 3-run homer highlighted a non conference split double header with William Woods on Tuesday. With the game tied at 2 in the sixth, Gately launched the first pitch over the right field fence to put MNU in the lead for good. William Woods scored quickly in the first inning after 2 singles and a triple, but MNU got out of the inning with no further damage.
Megan Schwindler got 6 straight outs via the strikeout in the middle innings, but the Pioneers were held scoreless until the fifth. Gately tripled with 1 out, and
Macie Jones' 2-out RBI double broke an 18-inning MNU scoreless streak to cut the deficit in half. In the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs when
Jess Peacock's bunt was thrown wide of first. The umpires took several seconds to determine whether or not the fielder kept her foot on the base, and when they signaled safe the Pioneers had tied the game at 2. After an argument from the Owl coach, Gately gave MNU their first lead with her 3rd homer of the season. Schwindler completed the game with a perfect seventh, and MNU won 5-2. Gately (3-3, 2 R, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, Sac),
Macie Jones (2-3, 2B, RBI), and
Kaity Wills (2-2, R, BB) had multi-hit games.
In Game 2, 2 first inning errors led to 3 unearned runs for the Owls, and MNU was held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh.
Macie Jones doubled and scored on a Jessica Scarlet sac fly, but that's all MNU would get as they fell 5-1.
MNU is 10-21 (0-4 HAAC). The next game is a double header on Wednesday at Evangel (9-8, 2-2) at 2:00.
