Pioneers Advance to Quarterfinals

"To our amazing fans..." VIDEO

The Pioneers dominated possession and earned a spot in the quarterfinals of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship tournament with a 2-0 victory over Vanguard on Tuesday. After a scoreless first half which saw MNU out-shoot Vanguard 10-4, the Pioneers finally broke through when Matias Cabello was taken down in the box. Eddie Morales buried the ensuing penalty kick, and MNU led 1-0. Just 3 minutes later, MNU struck again when Morales crossed a free kick into the box and Bryce McClanahan found Cameron Wallace who found the back of the net. MNU continued to dominate possession with a 2-goal lead, and the score remained until the final whistle.

MNU outshot Vanguard 23-8 (10-4 SOG). Juan Pablo Riesco recorded 4 saves in the shutout.

MNU is 16-5-1. The next match is Wednesday at 3:00 vs. defending champ #4 Davenport (16-2-3).
