Heart Champs!

The Pioneers secured their spot atop the Heart and earned an automatic bid to Nationals with a 3-0 sweep of #11 Evangel on Tuesday. It was the 4th straight Heart title for MNU and 25th straight regular-season conference home victory dating back to 2010. The scores were 25-19, 26-24, and 25-16 as MNU handed Evangel just their 4th loss of the season, and first sweep. In the first set, Evangel led 17-13 before Coach Kristin Steele called a timeout and righted the ship. MNU came out of the break and went on a 12-2 run to win the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Set 2 was controlled early by MNU, but the Crusaders fought back from an 8-point deficit to tie the set at 23. The Pioneers won 3 of the next 4 points, however, to take a 2-0 lead.

Set 3 was all MNU. An 8-1 start led to a 25-16 win to complete the sweep, and the Pioneers celebrated with a raucous crowd.

Gisele Silva recorded a match-high 14 kills along with 14 digs and 3 blocks. Lauma Knupke had 10 kills and 5 blocks. Sofija Berezovska had 8 kills and 9 digs. Rachel Kater had 39 assists and 11 digs. Tashley Snyder had 15 digs. And Taylor Cowan had 11 blocks.

MNU ends the regular season 22-9 (10-1 Heart). The postseason tournament starts at home on Saturday vs. Missouri Valley (23-12, 4-7) at 4:00.
