The Pioneers traveled to Evangel University Saturday evening for their last away conference game of the regular season. The Crusaders are competing in Men's Soccer for the first time in school history. MNU dominated the game and came away with an 8-0 win.
The scoring started early in just the fourth minute.
Lucas Machado scored from a
Frantzly Zephirin assist. The next two goals came just seconds apart.
Luis Cadena scored both goals with assists by Machado and
Cameron Wallace. In the 17th minute
Eddie Morales made the score 4-0. Zephirin and
Jonathan Taylor were credited with assists on the play. With the game in hand the Pioneer starters were replaced for the remainder of the game.
Henrik Bengtsson got the second half scoring started in the first minute. He scored on a penalty kick after drawing a foul in the box. In the 61st minute,
Felipe Abreu took a corner kick that
Johannes Keisers flicked to the back post;
Clark Campbell collected and curled his shot past the goalkeeper for the sixth goal. Just one minute later Abreu scored a header from an
Etienne Proult assist. In the 68th minute,
Tanner Hunjak wrapped up the scoring. After a brilliant individual move he finished into an open net.
For the game MNU outshot EU 47-0, with SOG being 26-0. The Crusader goalkeepers were credited with 18 saves.
Juan Pablo Riesco and
Trevor Gibson combined for the shutout without registering a save. Evangel falls to 0-13 (0-8) on the year.
#13 MNU is 12-3-1 (7-1 Heart) on the season. Next up is a showdown with conference rival, #4 Baker University (13-2-1, 7-1), at home on Wednesday at 3:30.
