Pioneers Falter in 2nd Half for First HAAC Loss

MNU dominated the first half at Peru State on Thursday, but the Bobcats flipped the script in the second half to win 72-70. The Pioneers started the game on an 8-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead for the final 10 minutes of the first half, taking a 16-point lead into the locker room. Peru State came out of the break hot, cutting the lead in half after just 3 minutes. The Pioneers responded and still led by 11 with 12 minutes to play, but Peru started to chip away. An 11-3 run got the lead down to 3, and the teams traded buckets over the next several minutes. When Peru finally took the lead, Martyna Kudziela hit a pair of free throws to take it right back. The Bobcats hit a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, but Megan Balcom hit 2 free throws to tie the game again with just under a minute to play. PSC converted on their next possession, and the Pioneers missed 3 of their next 4 free throws. The Bobcats held on to win by two for their first HAAC victory and MNU's first HAAC loss.

Daria Sprew shot 8-11 for 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. Tristin Wicks had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks. And Martyna Kudziela had 9 points and 6 rebounds.

MNU is 15-5 (5-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Central Methodist (9-5, 2-4) at 2:00.
