Box Score Stats | The Pioneers opened the 2014 season with a 2-1 victory over #20 Ashford on a humid afternoon in Olathe. In the 20th minute,
Kalyn Pfaff took a pass from
Kara Collins and found herself one-on-one with the Ashford keeper. Pfaff patiently made a few moves and drove a shot to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Not 5 minutes later, Ashford tied the score on a rocket from 20 yards after a failed clear, and the score was 1-1 through halftime. With about 7 minutes to play and neither team able to create much in the heat, MNU found a spark when the football team showed up. The new raucous crowd seemed to fuel MNU, and
Denise Dantzler's quick burst put her behind the defense with Pfaff. Dantzler fed Pfaff who dribbled to the goal and beat the keeper for the go-ahead goal. The defense held in the final minutes for the victory.
Freshman keeper
Lexi Gochnauer recorded 2 saves in her MNU debut, Collins and Dantzler eached picked up an assist, and Pfaff scored twice. MNU is 1-0. The next match is Tuesday at Ottawa at 7:00.
