Pioneers Shoot Down Eagles

MNU Women's Basketball will join their male counterparts in the HAAC Tourney Finals after a convincing 77-54 victory over Central Methodist on Saturday. The championship game will feature the top 2 seeds, Baker and MNU, in Baldwin City on Tuesday at 7:00.

The Pioneers jumped out to an 11-2 lead, but the Eagles went on an 11-5 run to get within 3. MNU fought off CMU with 7 points of a 9-0 run from Daria Sprew, and the Pioneers took a 12-point lead into halftime. CMU came out of the locker room with consecutive threes to cut the deficit in half, btu the Pioneers built the lead back to double digits and kept it there for the rest of the game.

Daria Sprew led all scorers with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Rachel Boan shot 5-8 from the field including 3-3 from beyond the arc for 13 points. Kelsey Balcom added 13 points and 5 rebounds. She was also 3-4 from the free throw line, snapping a streak of 33 consecutive made free throws. Megan Balcom had 7 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. And Kyleesha Weston had 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists off the bench.

MNU is 26-3. The next game is Tuesday at Baker (26-5) for the HAAC Tournament title at 7:00. MNU won at Baker 74-68 in December. Baker won at MNU 84-72 in January. Baker is 20-1 since losing to MNU and has won 17 in a row overall.
