Megan Balcom scored a career-high 23 points while dishing out a game-high 5 assists in MNU's 77-68 victory over #10 Baker on Thursday. The offenses started slowly as Baker scored the first 5 points, but the Pioneers got it going and went on a 9-0 run to lead by 4 after 6 minutes of play. The next 10 minutes were tight, and Baker led by 1 with 4 minutes until halftime. MNU scored the next 9 points to take an 8-point lead, but Baker hit a 3 at the buzzer to get back to within 5.
MNU was able to maintain a 2 or 3 possession lead for most of the second half until a quick burst by the Wildcats cut the lead to 1. The Pioneers scored the next 5 points, however, and a 3-pointer by
Kyleesha Weston put MNU up by 6 with 90 seconds to play.
Megan Balcom hit 6 free throws in the final minute to ice the game, and MNU won by 9.
Balcom was a perfect 9-9 from the line for a career-high 23 points,
Daria Sprew added 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks. And
Tristin Wicks,
Shadequa Longus,
Bailey Rinehart, and
Kyleesha Weston had 9 points apiece.
