Sprew and Longus Shine in Blowout

Seniors Daria Sprew and Shadequa Longus led the offense in a 96-68 blowout of Ottawa in the home opener on Tuesday. The first 10 minutes were close, but MNU used a 20-8 run to take a 9-point lead with 4 minutes to go in the half. But Ottawa nailed a 3 at the buzzer to cut the lead to 3 heading to the locker room.

The second half was all MNU. The Pioneers outscored the Braves 55-30 and the lead got as high as 36. Daria Sprew shot 11-14 for a career-high 25 points. Shadequa Longus was 7-12 for a career-high 18 points. Megan Balcom added 12 points, 7 assists, and 4 steals. Bailey Rinehart had 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals off the bench. Tristin Wicks had 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. And Martyna Kudziela added 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.

MNU shot 49% while holding Ottawa to 33%. The Pioneers racked up 13 steals and out-rebounded Ottawa by 10.

The Pioneers are 3-0. The next game is Friday in Atchison vs. Wayland Baptist (1-0) in the Benedictine Classic.
