MNU recorded its first loss of the season in an 81-63 decision at the hands of #8 Oklahoma Baptist in the OBU Thanksgiving Classic on Friday. First-half turnovers and poor 3-point shooting doomed the Pioneers in their most lop-sided loss since another 18-point loss in November of 2011.
The Pioneers trailed by just 3 points with 7 minutes remaining in the first half, but OBU closed the period with an 18-7 burst to take a 14-point lead into the locker room. The Pioneers committed 12 turnovers and went 0-9 from beyond the arc in the first half, and the start of the second half was more of the same. The OBU lead ballooned to 31 with 8 minutes remaining in the game. MNU closed with a 23-10 run but it was too late.
Daria Sprew led the offense with 12 points on 5-7 shooting.
Tristin Wicks had 10 points and 6 rebounds.
Bailey Rinehart had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Shadequa Longus had 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. And
Martyna Kudziela recorded 5 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks off the bench.
MNU is 6-1. The next game is Saturday vs. defending champ #1 Oklahoma City (1-1) at 1:00.
