Pioneers Fall in Oregon

The Pioneers overcame a rough start, but Southern Oregon dominated the fourth quarter in MNU's 44-26 loss in the NAIA Football Championship Series. MNU's first two drives ended in 3-and-outs, and Southern Oregon recorded a field goal and a touchdown to take a 10-0 lead. The Pioneers settled into a 9-play 54-yard drive ending with a Cristian Casillas 36-yard field goal, but the ensuing kickoff was returned for a touchdown and the first quarter ending with the Raiders leading by 14.

MNU started the second quarter by completing a 14-play 75-yard drive with a Javon Taylor touchdown, then stopped SOU on their next 2 drives to stay in the game. Trailing 17-10 with 2 minutes left in the half, MNU drove 80 yards on 9 plays and tied the game on a wide receiver pass from Wesley Foryoh to Dyler Meyers. SOU kicked a last-second field goal to take a 20-17 lead into the locker room.

Southern Oregon got a touchdown in the 3rd quarter, and MNU answered with a field goal as SOU entered the fourth with a 7-point lead. But the fourth was all Raiders. The first play was a 47-yard touchdown pass, and after a field goal put SOU up 17, a fumbled snap on a punt set up the Raiders at the MNU 3-yard line. Another quick touchdown put the game out of reach, but the Pioneers had one more score left in them. The second wide receiver touchdown pass, this time from Deron Kirkwood to Wesley Foryoh, accounted for the 44-26 final, and the Pioneer season came to a close.

Javon Taylor had 126 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Wesley Foryoh rushed for 21 yards, caught a touchdown pass, and threw a touchdown pass. And Tanner Hamilton (8), Matt Rashad (7), DeMarco Kemp (6), and James Guerrero (6) led in tackles.

MNU closes the season with a HAAC title and a 9-2 record.
