Game Recap: Volleyball | | Sports Information Department

The Streak Ends at 27

The Pioneer volleyball team lost in HAAC play for the first time since 2011 in a 5-set thriller at Graceland on Tuesday. Graceland won the first set handily 25-17, but the Pioneers bounced back to tie the match with a 25-21 victory in Set 2. The next 2 sets went past 25 as Graceland won the third 27-25, and MNU fought off 3 match points in the 4th to finally win 30-28. The Yellowjackets started quickly in the 5th set and the Pioneers couldn't recover, falling 15-10.

Zoraida Heredia had 12 kills and 26 digs. Sofija Berezovska had 11 kills and 9 digs. Lauma Knupke recorded 11 kills and 4 blocks. Taylor Cowan hit .818 with 10 kills and 7 blocks. Rachel Kater (23) and Becca Powers (21) combined for 44 assists, and Powers added 14 digs for a double double.

The Pioneers' last conference loss was late in 2011 at Baker. MNU closed that season with 3 regular-season victories and swept the 3-game HAAC tournament. In 2012 & 2013, the Pioneers went 9-0 in the regular season and 3-0 in the tourney to build the streak to 21 HAAC matches and 30 overall. This year MNU won the first 6 HAAC contests to improve to 27 and 36 before finally falling on Tuesday. There is another impressive streak still alive, however, as MNU hasn't lost at home to a HAAC opponent since 2010 (Lindenwood). 20 straight home regular season HAAC victories, plus 9 straight HAAC Tourney wins.

MNU is 17-11 (6-1 HAAC). The next match is Senior Night at home vs. Missouri Valley (18-13, 3-4) at 7:00.
