Pioneers Battle to a Tie at Baker

MNU and Baker played to a 1-1 draw Tuesday evening at Liston Stadium in Baldwin City. The Wildcats got on the board first with a goal in the 20th minute. A ball played into MNU's defensive third was misplayed and Jordan Thacker was there to finish the ball far post on a nice shot. The game was intense from start to finish and MNU was never able to grab a foothold in the game. Each team traded set piece opportunities and counter attacking options with no reward. In the 57th minute, one of MNU's set pieces paid off. A long throw in by Eddie Morales was flicked into the area by Aurelien Norest. Lucas Machado took an off-balanced shot that was saved by the Wildcat goalkeeper, but the rebound fell to Alvaro Beltran and he put the ball into the open net for the equalizing goal. The game ended 1-1 after two overtime periods.
