Pioneers Falter Late

Box Score It was a tale of two halves in MNU's 74-73 loss at CMU on Saturday. In the first half, MNU shot 62% and built a 12-point lead heading to the locker room. The first 8 minutes of the second half was more of the same as MNU's lead got as high as 16. But the Pioneers went ice cold while CMU got hot, and a 12-0 run got the Eagles back into the game. David Clark recorded a field goal at the 5-minute mark to give MNU a 3-point lead, but that was the last shot the Pioneers made. CMU tied the game with a 3-pointer, and the teams went back and forth in the final few minutes. MNU made 5 free throws to take a 1-point lead, but CMU scored on a layup with 5 seconds left to re-take the lead. Nick Syrie took the inbounds pass and streaked up the floor, but his last-second floating jumper went begging and the Pioneers lost by 1. CMU shot 63% in the second half while MNU shot 30%.
