Pioneers Play Well in Chicagoland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Pioneers played 2 matches in Chicagoland and came away with a tie and a win over Labor Day weekend. On Saturday MNU faced #25 Judson University and found themselves trailing for the first time in the young season when the Eagles found the net in the 27th minute. The Pioneers couldn't find the net until the final seconds as a corner kick found Rebecca Nigh in the box. Nigh beat the leaping goalkeeper to send the game into overtime. Neither team could muster a score in the 2 extra periods and MNU salvaged a tie. Breanna Oddo recorded 9 saves in 110 minutes in the net.

On Monday the Pioneers faced St. Xavier. MNU dominated play, out-shooting the Cougars 22-7 for the game including a 17-3 advantage in shots on goal. In the 16th minute, Ellaisa Marquis took a pass from Kara Collins and scored from 15 yards out to take the lead. The 1-0 score held through halftime and was increased when Kelli Reid's corner kick found Kara Quinn for a goal and 2-0 lead. Hayley Fife and Breanna Oddo combined to make 3 saves in the shutout.

MNU is 3-0-1. The next game is Saturday at home vs. Ottawa (1-2) at 1:30.
