Pioneers Shut Out #21 KWU

Box Score

The MNU Men's Soccer team got another road win Wednesday night. This time it was #21 ranked Kansas Wesleyan University. The Pioneers started the game really well and were in control of the match early. The guys did a great job of controlling possession and the game began to change as the half wore on. In the 23rd minute MNU freshman Jonathan Babcock scored his first collegiate goal off an Eddie Morales throw-in deep in the KWU end. It was a scrappy goal with multilple players in the 6-yard box and Babcock was able to get a foot on the ball as he was falling down. MNU's next chance came on a corner-kick late in the first half. Matias Fernandez drove a ball into the box but the MNU header went just over the bar.

The second half was a different game. KWU stepped up their pressure and seemed to gain more of a foothold on the game.  "Coach Romo has done a good job with this group," stated Coach Wardlaw. "He has them very organized and they work hard. We played well and probably should have created more chances but KWU made it tough and they never gave up." As the half wore on MNU's possession again began to control the pace but the Pioneers were unable to add to their lead.

For the game MNU outshot KWU 10-4. MNU's goalkeeper Chris Eriksson had 1 save in earning the shutout. KWU falls to 3-2 on the year. MNU moves their record to 6-2-1. Next up is McPherson College on Saturday at 4:00 at PIoneer Field.
