Highlights | The women struggled through the first half but dominated the second in a 71-48 victory over Avila on Thursday. The Eagles jumped out to a 10-2 lead after 4 minutes, but the Pioneers went on a 10-0 run to take the lead. Twelve first-half MNU turnovers kept Avila in the game, but the Pioneers still led by 1 at halftime. A halftime adjustment of focusing on scoring in the paint led to MNU taking a 10-point lead after 5 minutes, and the Pioneers closed the game on a 21-5 run to extend their winning streak to 12.

Megan Balcom went 4-6 from beyond the arc to lead all scorers with 16 points, matching her season high. Kendra Flemming had 15 points and 4 steals off the bench. Rachel Boan recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. And Kiley Herold had 8 points and 9 rebounds.

The Pioneers are 22-2 (12-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at Benedictine (22-3, 12-1) at 2:00 with first place in the HAAC on the line. The Ravens have not lost since the Pioneers beat them 69-56 in Olathe in early January.

The Eagles had a 1-point lead with 12 minutes left in the game when the Pioneers turned it around. The final 12 minutes saw the Pioneers outscore Avila 35-12 as they build a 22-point lead by the end of the game.

Rustin Dowd went 7-11 from the field and 6-7 from the line for 22 points. Luke Thomas had 18 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. Jacob French had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Brandon Newton had 10 points and 8 rebounds. And Nick Syrie had 7 points and 6 assists in 17 minutes after not playing since Thanksgiving.

The Pioneers are 18-7 (10-3 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at Benedictine (16-8, 8-5) at 4:00. The Ravens beat the Pioneers 67-60 in Olathe in early January.
