Box Score 2 Daria Sprew and
Luke Thomas dominated the paint and neither team ever trailed in MNU's sweep of Missouri Valley on Saturday. In the women's game, the Pioneers started with a 9-0 run, but Valley fought back to tie the score at 23 with 6 minutes left in the half. MNU finished the half with a 16-8 run to take an 8-point lead into the locker room. Sprew recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds in the period. In the second half, Valley cut the deficit to 1 at the 11-minute mark, but a 13-1 run by MNU got the lead back to 12 and Valley couldn't recover and MNU won 69-57.
Sprew was 7-13 from the field and 7-9 from the line for 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Kelsey Balcom (11) and
CJ Wesemann (10) also reached double figures.
MNU is 10-1 (3-0 HAAC). The next games for MNU are in a weekend set of games in Las Vegas starting Friday the 27th.
In the men's game,
Luke Thomas matched a career high with 18 boards in MNU's 91-73 victory over Valley. Like the women's game, MNU jumped out to a big lead, this time 11-0, and maintained a double digit lead for most of the first half. But a late run by Valley got them within 7 at halftime. The Vikings got within 3 in the opening minutes of the second half, but a 14-2 MNU run (with all points coming in the paint) built a 15-point lead and MNU cruised to victory.
Conner Langrehr led the Pioneers with 19 points on 8-15 shooting.
Luke Thomas was 6-11 from the field and the line for 18 points and 18 rebounds.
David Clark put up 15 points.
Brandon Newton recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
Nate Launius had 14 points off the bench. And
Nick Syrie had 11 points and 7 assists.
MNU is 8-3 (1-2 HAAC). The next games are in a weekend series in Billings, Montana vs. Montana-Western (6-4) and Rocky Mountain (8-2) starting Friday the 27th.
