#15 MNU capped off the Jeff Uphaus Memorial Classic with a 90-85 victory over Sterling on Friday. A 23-7 run gave the Pioneers a 10-point lead at the 12-minute mark in the first half, and they never lost the lead. But Sterling made a comeback in the final 5 minutes. Trailing by 13, the Warriors went on a 17-8 run to get within 4, but the Pioneers hit their free throws down the stretch and Sterling ran out of time.
Luke Thomas led MNU with 16 points and 12 rebounds. David Clark had 15 points. Conner Langrehr had 14 points, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Brandon Newton had 13 points and 6 rebounds. Nate Launius put up 13 points off the bench. And Nick Syrie had 9 points and 13 assists.
The Pioneers are 5-0. The next game is Friday at #24 Our Lady of the Lake University (1-2) in San Antonio at 7:30.
