Pioneers Close Season With Blowout Victory

Box Score

The Pioneers reached the end zone on their first 2 plays from scrimmage as they blew out Central Methodist on a gusty day in Olathe. CMU's opening drive resulted in a touchdown, and the ensuing kickoff got caught up in the wind and resulted in an unintentional onside kick recovery, but that was the last of the good news for the Eagle. When MNU finally got the ball, Greg Gates took the first play 35 yards to the end zone to tie the game. After a CMU punt, Michael Lindsey took the first play 80 yards on a reserve for another touchdown and MNU kept pouring it on. Jabari Harris scored on a keeper on MNU's 4th play, and the first quarter ended with a 21-7 lead for the Pioneers.

CMU scored on a field goal early in the second quarter, but MNU answered with a Trent Hedlund to LaDon Hudson touchdown pass to extend the lead. Then Hedlund found Lindsey as the half expired for another touchdown to give MNU a 35-10 lead.

Devon Hall recorded an 80-yard pick-6 early in the third quarter, and CMU couldn't recover. The icing came when Jabari Harris found Trevor Vogelsmeier for a 57-yard touchdown pass on 4th and 17, and MNU cruised to the finish.

Greg Gates had 13 carries for 129 yards and a touchdown in his final game at MNU. He leaves with a program-record 3692 career rushing yards. Trent Hedlund went 8-10 for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air. And Jabari Harris was 4-5 for 75 yards and a touchdown. LaDon Hudson had 7 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown. And Michael Lindsey caught 3 balls for 36 yards and 2 touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, senior Joe Camacho went out with a bang. A career-high 25 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss and an interception. Justin Vargas recorded 17 tackles inclyding a sack.

MNU finishes the season 5-5 (5-4 HAAC).
