Stats | The #8 Pioneers used another balanced attack in a 59-50 victory over John Brown University on Tuesday. MNU steadily built a 13-point lead near the end of the first half as Megan Balcom put up 12 points and 3 assists. The lead got as high as 14 early in the second half before JBU stiffled the Pioneer offense and crawled back into the game. And 8-1 run got the Golden Eagles to within 4 with 8 minutes left, but MNU held the lead into the final minute where Kyleesha Weston took over. A steal and a layup put MNU up by 7, then a free throw following a JBU score maintained the lead. A fast break layup in the final seconds sealed it, and MNU won by 9.
Rachel Boan led all scorers with 16 points on 6-9 shooting. Megan Balcom finished with 15 points, a game-high 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Daria Sprew had 8 points and a team-high 10 boards. And Marlianne Louzeiro had 6 rebounds and 2 blocks off the bench.
MNU is 2-0. The next games are a weekend trip to Denver to play NCAA D2 programs Metro State and Regis.
