The Pioneers lost to Baker for the first time since 1999 in a 37-20 defeat on Saturday. Baker never trailed in the contest as the MNU offense struggled to find rhythm. After both teams punted twice, Baker broke through with a 6-play 39-yard touchdown drive to take the lead. MNU tied the game early in the 2nd quarter with a 12-play 62-yard drive which ended with a Trent Hedlund to LaDon Hudson touchdown pass. Baker nailed a 47-yard field goal to re-take the lead, then took advantage of an MNU fumble to score again before halftime to take a 17-7 lead.
The 2nd half started with a Pioneer touchdown drive, but the PAT was blocked and MNU trailed by 4. The play of the game occurred when a Baker fake field goal went for a touchdown, and Baker never looked back. An 11-play 58-yard touchdown drive put the game out of reach in the 4th, and a 17-play 78-yard touchdown drive iced the contest.
Hedlund was 13-28 for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns. Greg Gates had 16 carries for 52 yards. Michael Lindsey caught 5 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. LaDon Hudson had 5 catches for 38 yards and 2 touchdowns. And JD Wood (14), Joe Camacho (12), and Donte Wade (11) recorded double-digit tackles.
