Pioneers Sweep Avila

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MNU Basketball made the short trip to Avila and came away with a pair of victories on Thursday.

In the women's game, Kelsey Balcom's 14 points paced MNU in a foul-heavy low-scoring 57-52 victory. Neither team could put any distance from the other in the first half until MNU went on a 7-1 run to close the period. The 6-point lead disappeared in the second half and Avila managed a 1-point lead with 11 minutes remaining. The Pioneers answered with a 7-0 run to regain control and didn't lose the lead again.

Kelsey Balcom had 14 points. Rachel Boan had 11 points and 6 rebounds. And Megan Balcom had 8 points and 3 assists.

The Pioneers are 13-2 (3-1 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at home vs. #22 Benedictine (13-2, 3-0) at 2:00.

In the men's game, Jacob French went 8-9 from the field for a game-high 21 points and game-high 7 rebounds as MNU won 75-63. The Pioneers built a big early lead and Avila never got within single digits in the second half as MNU moved to 4-0 in the HAAC.

Joining French had 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists. Rustin Dowd was 3-6 from beyond the arc for 13 points. Conner Langrehr added 12 points and 6 rebounds. And Lukas Weigel didn't miss a shot (4-4 FG, 3-3 FT) for 11 points. MNU shot 55%.

MNU is 12-4 (4-0 HAAC). The next game is Saturday at home vs. Benedictine (9-5, 1-2) at 4:00.
